How I define religion relates to what Geertz’s emphasized as the definition of religion in his piece. In a similar way, I believe that religion does consists of symbols and rituals that serve as moral foundations for human beings. Moreover, these rituals, practices, teachings and traditions of a certain religion shape one’s morals and code of ethics. At the same time, these religious traditions are reflected through the actions and ethics practiced by many in their daily lives. Overall, they serve as the basis of one’s sense of existence and belonging into society. Although, I relate to Geertz, I also understand as to why Asad criticized his claim. Clearly, this is a Western perspective on politics, but I believe that the structures within its institutions serve as the backbone of a functioning society. My view on politics certainly evokes the words of Leftwich that the definitions of politics are shaped by one’s interpretation. Clearly, there are many theories and definitions of politics out there. Its structures and fundamentals may vary. Yet, I see politics as an integral foundation of any society. I believe that the lack of governance leads to chaos and inefficiency. Therefore, despite the many concepts of politics worldwide, societies need some sort of leadership structure and guidance to be
