I had the great opportunity to view a video clip, Gift using the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DUYlHZsZfc I have explained how three elements namely situation, voice and movement and tension were embedded in this drama using appropriate scenes.
1. Situation
Son was happy when he read a quote written by his father on a bookmark along with a book, thinking that it was for him. Father said “Hey it is not for you”. Son's facial expression showed that he was unhappy. A similar situation arose. When father gave son packet money, son was glowing with happiness. The next moment, he asked son to drop it in a donation box, and the act brought unhappiness to son. In another scene, father offered son some money in an envelop when he got …show more content…
2. Voice and movement
Son believed that father was not rich like his friends' parents. Son expressed the feeling when he asked his father “why we are not rich?” Father replied son “Who says we are not rich. Being rich is not how much you have, but how much you give. Somehow when you give, you will be happier.” The father has used expressive voice paired up with his hand movements, an important aspect of drama (Dinham, 2014, p.192).
Son does not likes his father. This was shown in several scenes. In one particular scene, father has fallen asleep with a book. Son woke up his father with rudeness, throwing the book on his father, saying that it was getting late for him to go to school. But, father woke up immediately saying that he was sorry. This scene reflects the frustration of son directed towards his father and father's tolerance to son's behaviour, which cleverly uses the voice with expression.
