Students learned how to dodge chalk and cover their heads and stomachs whenever they were asked a question by the angry French teacher (Dedaris, 2000). This piece of evidence supports the author's goal because it describes what the character goes through while in the process of learning French. It's an event in the article that goes over the fear the character and students had at answering a question wrong. I think this key point is essential in the article, because it's the main part of the struggle. There can be no accomplishment if the character did not go through something in the first place. When the main character says “for the first time since arriving in France, I could understand every word that someone was saying” (Desaris, 2000). This piece of evidence is the most important one because it describes the accomplishment of the main character. After all the struggles the main character has been through, he finally understands what his French teacher has been trying to say. I agree completely with this key point and evidence. The author did a great job in ending the article on a happy note and the main character feeling a little bit rewarded. I believe the ending is the reason why I think the author's claim is hard work pays off in the
