Article Analysis: Gang Life

People in gangs usually live a short, violent, and scary life. In both the article “What’s it like to be a gang member” by Bill Lee and the poem “We real cool” by Gwendolyn Brooks, certain problems and challenges that happen in gang life are shown. Although the article explains gang life through many detailed paragraphs, the poem on the other hand, explains gang life through just a few stanzas, but they both portray Gang life.
In The article, Bill Lee wrote about himself, as a former gang member, he talks about his life in a gang. To quote an example of gang life from the article, “We recruited kids beginning in middle school, offering quick cash, guns, girls, money, muscle” this is a false sense of empowerment.
