More on the aftermath of 9/11. The terrorist attack on September 11th is by far the worst terrorist act to happen on U.S. soil, killing 2,977 people. Terrorists crashed four planes: two planes hit World Trade Center, one landed in a field in Pennsylvania, and the last one hit the Pentagon Building (“Washington September 11th Terror Attacks Fast Facts”). Some good effects include safety, more understanding of the people, and threat neutralization of terrorism. A negative effect is a bigger cost in surveillance. But, even with all its pros, the U.S. people still seem to say that the Patriot Act is bad. When the Patriot Act was first accepted, more U.S. citizens supported it than they do now because back then they saw the need. Because it is in place and working, people do not see the need. For example, about 50 terrorist attacks have been stopped since 9/11 which might not have been possible without the Patriot Act (Bucci), saving hundreds of people maybe even thousands.
