Throughout reading the argument, I kept the idea of alcohol and cigarettes, two legal substances, in the back of my mind. Alcohol could be addicting to some people just like drugs are. If the government finds all drugs to be “bad”(all drugs including over-the-counter and, in my opinion, alcohol and cigarettes), then the government should consider these items illegal as well. “In short, the government cannot sit by and watch people ruin their lives with drugs.” People die horrible deaths and ruin their lives with alcohol abuse and cigarette addiction every day and it is still sold to anyone that is of legal age at any time. As with the consequences involved with legalization of drugs, I questioned most of them. It is possible that there will be much more drug use and addiction when or if all drugs were legalized. I do not agree that everyone in this country will go out and buy some drugs at the liquor store once it becomes legal because some people simply do not like the idea of doing drugs. The last point mentioned about the consequences of legalizing drugs is that crime would increase. In the United States, according to “Uniform Crime Reports” on FBI.gov, crime rates are the same as those in the 1960s. There was an all time crime rate rise in between
