The Patriots
The Patriots’ punishment for allegedly deflating the footballs during the Super Bowl is wrong because the balls were only deflated in the first half of the game, all professional sports teams cheat, and because the Patriots were the overall better team. In the 2014 Super Bowl against the Indianapolis Colts, the New England Patriots were accused of fixing the game to their advantage. There was evidence that the Patriots did indeed cheat, but there is also evidence defending them. This article’s purpose is not to say the New England Patriots did not cheat. People were shocked by this win. Yet, 50 years later, surviving New York Giants players admitted that they stole the Brooklyn Dodgers’ catchers signs and knew what pitches were coming. Even the Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher, Ralph Branca, knew that it was happening. There’s also the inelegant way of “cheating”, called flopping. Flopping is preformed by throwing yourself to the ground as if you were hit by a semi-truck, when in reality you were barely touched at all. The referee will now play in your favor, and will give you the advantage for the time being. We see flopping in many sports. It’s almost a tradition in men’s and women’s soccer. Although you don’t get fined for flopping, it’s a undercover way of cheating. Flopping has affectively got teams extra points, that they couldn't have got on their own. There was another incident in football involving the Oakland Raiders. The star wide receiver, Fred Biletnikoff, and star defensive back, Lester Hayes, both used stickum on their hands. This of course helped them get better catches from the quarterback and make better interceptions on the opposing team. Another indirect example of cheating is the University of Iowa. They painted the opponents locker room and lockers pink, in hope that it would make the teams less aggressive in the
