I always dreamed of helping those who didn’t have it as good as I did because I always knew, that if my dad lost his job then that could be me and my family. Even looking at myself now and being blessed enough to stay with my sister when I know that I can’t stay with my dad due to his wife or with my mom in Montreal due to immigration reason, this could have been me, on the street begging for food, for shelter and lost. However, even with all these things people are still searching and feel as if they’re lost and have nowhere to go, but I believe that God’s plan for each and every one of us is perfect. And I believe in his good thoughts for us and good plans for us. We can’t wait for others to act, instead, we should ask God to use us for greater good of

How many of you saw a homeless person on the way to this event? How many of you saw a man with an unshaven face rubbing his hands together for warmth sitting alone in the abyss of humans on the streets of Chicago? How many of you went shopping for presents and passed people who wouldn’t receive any gifts for Christmas this year, never mind a nice dinner or even the warmth of a fireplace? That terrible truth is that we’ve all done it. We are all guilty of passing a homeless person and thinking nothing of it.…

I tend to think of this point as the most important point. Standing and serving those in need doesn't have to just be the poor, it could be a friend who was being bullied, or someone who simply needed help with homework. As Catholics, we stand by people who need assistance rather than running away and ignoring them. This summer, I worked at the Center for Food Action, which is a food bank in north Jersey. Helping out and delivering the canned good and donations to the needy was such an amazing experience.…

Prior to conducting this experiment, my hypothesis was that I was going to offend all of the people involved, so I prepared myself mentally for the backlash and negative feedback. Surprisingly, there was a range of emotions and reactions to me breaking this folkway. Emotions ranged from being completely offended and disgusted to finding it hysterical. The reactions from the people fluctuate from being angry and notifying the manager to asking me to join them for dinner. The experiment was conducted at least two times in both the bar and restaurant section, except for Sunday the 18th.…

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” or “who made the biggest impact in your life?” are questions that I could answer from the top of my head. “What’s an experience in your life that helped shape the person you’ve become?” is one of those questions that requires little critical thought. Because volunteering at this homeless shelter changed my entire outlook on and attitude toward life, it didn’t take me that long to figure out that it was an experience that happened to shape the person I am today because I began to cherish life so much more, it taught me the responsibility that I’m pretty sure every parent craves in a kid. Also, I have a much more positive outlook on life.…

I could tell that it was going to be one of those days. Nothing seemed to go right all day. I was mindlessly sitting at my desk when all of a sudden the classroom door swung open and there appeared a girl with long, shiny black hair, black leather boots, silver dangly earrings, a heart locket, and a black bracelet with lots of tiny buttons. She looked like a cross between a goth and a biker who liked to accessorize. Okay I thought.…

As Christians, we must try our best to make time to serve others and be more involved in the community. Father McFarland lecture talked about setting aside time in our personal lives to give back. He said, “give up a couple of hours of your life to bring joy to those around you” (McFarland 10/31/16). Although I and all one-hundred plus volunteers, could have been sleeping in and enjoying our Saturday, we chose to give up those four hours of our day to bring joy to the children and families of the community. Seeing all of the smiling parents and children enjoying their time with us truly made me very happy.…

I woke up every morning with the thought of going out and doing things that would benefit those who need help. So it really helped me feel better about what I do, because it not only helped others, but it really affected me because I was so happy to see the joyful faces of those who we helped. ”After hearing that I asked:”How do you try to influence others, and what do you try to do to help others have a better life?”. She said :”I think that using only speech to influence someone Isn’t effective, because actions speak louder than words.…
