These characters, Bean and Langston grasp everything that happens around them, even those of the things that are not direct. Langston lived his whole life living up to the expectations of his father and following in his footsteps. He then realized that he cannot be his father nor can he be as successful in the same field. He decides to find out more information of the other Langston Canes which are his grand fathers. While doing this, he took the information and wrote a book. The narrator in The Silver Star, Bean Holladay observes her sister, Liz get attacked by Mr. Maddox. The two faithfully attempt to run away from the band snatchers. Bean rarely sees her mother because she is always away and never with her and her sister. Therefore the kids are almost taken away by the band snatchers. They then move to Virginia to live with their grandparents. The authors, Hill and Walls develop this concept by taking the narrator through series of experiences where they are placed to absorb.
