Is the Leader of their People a Dictator or a Savior?
The article about gay marriage and the play Antigone both created decrees that people reflect on the outcome positively or negatively. Antigone is a memorable female princess that decided it was mishandled to not bury her brother, Polyneices, but King Creon sentences her to death for defying his law. The Supreme Court passed the law in all states that gay marriage was allowed, but only 37 states allow it. People were favorable about it but some people despised it as well. Choosing the right decision for your people will determine the outcome of their reaction. The Supreme Court was debating of allowing gay couples to marry each other in every state in America. “The Supreme Court ruling giving gays and lesbians the right to marry marked a huge shift in law and public attitudes.” Not only gay people, but a lot of people around America wanted gay marriage to be legalized. When the Supreme Court passed the law, everyone around the US was surprised and happy about it being passed, which motivated people or made people very angry at the government and despising everyone who appreciated it being allowed. Creon enforces a law about Oedipus’ son, Polyneices, that no one shall touch, pray, or even bury him. “Creon: Polyneices, I say, is to have no burial; no man is to touch him or say the least prayer for him; he shall die on the plain, unburied.” Eteocles died as a hero, but supposedly Polyneices died as a traitor, so he doesn’t receive a proper burial, and just lays there, until animals or bugs eat him up. My definition of a good citizen is leadership, loyalty, and respect. It’s great to show great characteristics of one and a great example to show for the little ones. If something about the law isn’t alright, then you do what’s right about that law. Respecting others decisions about the new law and not being negative to them about it, can show of you being a good citizen. All you have to do is just be yourself and don’t overdo it. In conclusion, the play Antigone and the article both share a similarity and a difference to each other. They both create and enforce laws for people to follow. The article though, people mainly follow the new created law, but in Antigone, only Antigone disobeys that newly enforced law.
