In the “Anthem Uproar” from Junior Scholastic, Carl Stoffers reports about a huge uproar in our nation. During the national anthem before a football game, the 49er’s quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, took a seat. The entire nation created an uproar. Most sports nowadays sing the anthem before every sports event. Baseball began this trend and tradition in the mid-1800’s and other sports began to follow. Many other countries do not sing their anthems, but we have really incredible reasons for it. The anthem is sung because our nation is proud to be who we are and proud of the equal rights we have; it is our tradition.
