People treated Japanese less than human, and laughed at them even after they shoved them into camps. They took away everything but the things they brought to camp. No one stood up for them, and they faced lots of dehumanization.
You give people hope by helping people. “And whoever is happy will make others happy, too. People who have courage and faith will never perish in misery!” -Anne Frank March 7, 1944. Whenever someone helped her or vise-versa, Anne gained hope that things would soon get better. Without that hope she wouldn't have been the same optimistic and happy person. Without hope, the people hiding would bicker, and tension would be thick. Everyone needs hope for survival, it's good to give hope in anyway you can.

People being persecuted suffered in silence. If more people stood up, the holocaust would have ended
