Annabeth Chase Narrative

I hated moving. Especially when it included my four annoying, overprotective brothers in a three- day drive from San Francisco to New York. Sure, they're pretty chill and I love them, even if I get the urge to strangle them every 2 minutes. And being the only girl in the family, doesn't help. I'm Annabeth Chase and I'm sixteen years old. Does my last name ring a bell? Well, if you're into the film industry, then you might know my brother, Jacob Chase or Jake for short. In her lecture, Erin Runions, began by explained that in the bible disgust starts as disgust toward an ethnic group. This disgust then becomes disgust toward different kinds of sexual practices. Next, she argues that in America, the intuitive reaction to gay sex is one of disgust and she wants to convert that disgust into humor thinking with affect theory. The use of dual narratives in Louise Erdrich’s novel Tracks creates a feeling that the reader is being given two sides of the same story. It broadens the events mentioned from personal experience to communal experience, and in some cases re-enforces events described so that the reader knows what happened from two points of view. At the same time, however, it creates a sense of almost paranoia for the reader. Because of the personalities of each narrator, one tends to make us question the other.…

When people know the context of the literature they are studying, they can make connections with the reading to develop a better overall understanding. A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson is clearly Puritan literature. Rowlandson’s narrative is Puritan literature because of the Puritan elements present, the comparison of the role of God to that of other Puritan works, and the similarity of the focus of Rowlandson to the focus of other Puritan writers. Combining these elements validates Rowlandson’s work as Puritan literature. The first way to identify A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson as Puritan literature is to find the Puritan thoughts about which Rowlandson writes.…

Heart-aking thoughts here I had about my poor Children, who were scattered up and down amongst the wild Beasts of the Forest : my head was light and dizzy (either through hunger, or hard lodging, or trouble, or all together) my knees feeble, my body raw by sitting double night and day, that I cannot express to the man the affliction that lay upon my spirit, but the Lord helped me at that time to express it to himself. (13-14) In this passage from A True History of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, Rowlandson briefly expresses her concerns for her children who are, like herself, being held in captivity by local tribes of Native Americans. She than proceeds to turn attention back onto herself, something that occurs numerous times…

Mary Rowlandson’s captivity narrative is made up of a hue of different voices that she uses to portray separate messages about what’s happening, what she thinks about it, and how she feels. Therefore, her captivity narrative has a varying effect on different readers. For instance, some readers may believe that Rowlandson has a very cohesive thought process throughout the whole of her captivity, because she uses these varying voices to prove one overarching theme to the reader: God provided the circumstances which gave her the ability to survive the captivity. However, other readers see several contradictions or discrepancies in the way she writes, because of the different voices she uses. For example, Rowlandson leads the reader in one direction for a passage, then she flips her writing to reflect the opposite idea.…
