Animal Testing

Every single year in the United States millions of innocent animals die due to animal testing. Animal testing really should be called animal cruelty or animal abuse because the animals are burned, crippled, isolated and traumatized by these tests. It is not okay to do such in humane things to poor, innocent animals that have no way to stand up for themselves, therefore we have to speak up for them.

Animals are tested on to make sure products or medications are safe for us humans to use. The tests they do on these animals are absolutely awful though. “The animals are deprived from everything natural or important to them” (People for the…), they are confined to barren cages, their skin is burned off, they are forced

Animal testing has contributed to many life-saving cures and treatments” (Animal Testing…) and there is no alternative to testing on a whole body system. Animal testing doesn’t just help humans though, it also helps other animals. Domestic animals like dogs and cats need vaccinations like us so animal testing makes sure those are safe to use.

The cons outweigh the pros. As well as being physically abused, they are mentally and emotionally abused as well. “Most [animals] never experience fresh air or sunshine, only bars and concrete” (Animal Testing…), causing the animals to have severe stress. Some animals like mice are capable of empathy and they become more stressed when they see other mice in distress. These awful tests are the cause of many animals becoming psychologically traumatized.

So many well-known companies test their products on animals and when we buy those products, it just gives them more money to test on more animals. Some of those companies include Maybelline, L’Oreal, Vaseline, Chapstick and there are many more. We do not need to test these products on animals because there are alternative solutions like computer models that can predict what will happen to the body when it uses the product, fake skin that reacts like actual skin, simulation patients, and some people even volunteer to be tested

According to Michael Pollan’s article, “An Animal’s Place”, the hens and pigs are being raised in an unhealthy and tiny environment just for the profits leading the animals to suffer greatly. The farmers create opportunities for the animals to hurt each other to the point that the animals can’t endure the pain anymore and even lead them to die (6). This shows how animals live a tough life without proper care and without being loved by humans. Animals are also used as tools for research experiments. Two examples of research studies that are described by Peter Singer through his article, “The Animal Liberation Movement”, show how rabbits become blind through symptoms such as swollen lids, inflamed iris, ulcerated cornea” after the Draize Test for cosmetic companies, and he also mentions how half of the sample of animals such as rats, mice, or dogs are poisoned to death in order to test for the Lethal Dose 50 test for a certain substance (Singer 7).…

“If you want to test cosmetics, why do it on some poor animal who hasn 't done anything? They should use prisoners who have been convicted of murder or rape instead. So, rather than seeing if perfume irritates a bunny rabbit 's eyes, they should throw it in Charles Manson 's eyes and ask him if it hurts,” said comedian Ellen DeGeneres in My Point... And I Do Have One, her humorous reflection on her life. Though Ellen DeGeneres makes a hyperbolic point, she questions the ethicality of animal testing.…

These animals are used to develop medical treatments, determine the toxicity of medications, check the safety of products destined for human use, and other biomedical, commercial, and healthcare uses ("Animal Testing - ProCon.org"). Although it may seem that there are many benefits of testing on animals it is still very inhumane to the animals. These animals being locked inside these barren cages begin to lack the enrichment they need. The lack of environmental enrichment causes them to become stressed and the develop neurotic behaviors. Such behaviors include “incessantly spinning in circles, rocking back and forth, pulling out their own fur, and even biting themselves” (“Animal Testing 101”).…

They sit in this cage longing for the day that they are able to free, if they survive the experiments or if they are of no longer need to the scientists. Every year there are millions of animals killed in laboratories from the tests and experiments done to them. These poor, defenseless animals are poisoned, shocked, and burned during these tests and are often killed because of this. If these actions were done outside of a laboratory it would be considered animal abuse.…

Many companies use animals to see how they will react to their product. There are many companies out there that do not use animals for testing their products though and they have great products that people like you and me love and buy everyday. I personally disagree with animal testing just because of the thought that what if it was your pet getting some kind of nasty chemical put in them and it kills them. I couldn’t deal with that, but plenty of scientist don’t care and they just want to get their product to…

The main reason why we animal test is for cosmetic research, not medical research, which is the only type that can be half accepted. Medical research for humans on animals means they still do not get the correct results we need because of the two different reactions of chemicals in two different animals. Popular brands hide the way they animal test because they know that when people find out their product will not sell as well. Global warming is also a huge and rising problem on our earth, and by cutting out cosmetic research on animals, it will mean a few hundred less factories running around the world and releasing fumes into the atmosphere. This will mean a lot of jobs lost, but there are plenty more jobs in the world and it will only benefit our world.…

Why Animal Testing Should Be Banned Everyday innocent animals are being forced into labs and tested for human research advancement. Cruelty Free International states how approximately 115 million animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, dogs and monkeys are used in dangerous laboratory experiments every year. In fact, many of the experiments are said to be useless tests, as stated, “The reality is that the majority of animal experiments do not contribute to improving human health, and the value of the role that animal experimentation plays in most medical advances is questionable” (“Animal Testing is Bad Science”). Misconceptions by the media may stretch the idea how animal testing can cure diseases, illnesses etc.. But actually, as emphasized, animal testing is an inefficient way of finding medical advances, making the procedures to be unnecessary and making there be no reason to force animals into labs without a choice, it's blatantly a waste of animals lives.…
