Anglo Saxon Definition Of A Hero Essay

Over time, the definition of a hero has changed. It has changed from the Anglo Saxon times, to an everyday hero, to a Hollywood hero. Not just the definition has changed over time, but also who our heroes are and how they became heroes. He has been through plenty of trials in his life including not having both parents in the household and also living on his own at age seventeen, while taking care of his two younger siblings. Using what knowledge he has inquired through those trials, he has learned how to be a responsible adult and also how to show compassion for others when they are going through an ordeal similar to what he went through when he was younger. A hero that the Anglo-Saxons identify with, would be Beowulf. Beowulf is an individual who is brave enough to challenge a monster by the name of Grendel. Grendel is known as the “mankind’s enemy” (Beowulf 25). Beowulf challenged Grendel because he wants to save Hrothgar’s kingdom. This demonstrates how brave, kind, and selfless Beowulf is. A Hollywood hero, would be Steve Jobs, the inventor of the Apple brand. He is a hero, because he is intelligent and gave the world a gadget that has never been seen
