Andrew Delbanco's Three Reasons College Still Matters?

Andrew Delbanco in his article “3 Reasons College Still Matters,” he points out the importance of getting a college degree by saying that citizens must think of the benefits that they are going to get after they graduate from college. He gives three benefits when students get a college degree, and these benefits are: economically, politically, and intellectually educated. It sounds good to have such benefits, but nowadays, with all the development in technology that we have and all the things that make our life so easy, we depend every day more on technology. College students should manage their time and they should keep a regular routine to facilitate the achievement of their goals. Attending to a college is an amazing experience, but it has many challenges that every student must overcome and one of them is managing their time. Nothing helps a college student more than to stay organized with a good calendar. The calendar will help the student remember all the important assignments and events that the student must do and attend. The calendar will become their external memory. The uses of the calendar will help the student reduce stress because it will make them remember ahead of time of the assignments that the student must work on, but this solution will only work if the student is responsible enough to do the work at the time. They think that students get more comfortable doing exercises at their own peace and in front of the computer, but I do not think that giving only online homework is the most effective form of giving homework, because how does the teacher know who is doing the work. Also, if the homework is online, how does the teacher know how much information the student learned during the course? Additionally, if the assignment is online the student is going to get distracted using the internet to search for a different thing that is not related to the homework that they are supposed to do. I am not against the use of technology for homework, what I believed is that the homework that is assigned, the student must show proof of the work. For example, if the student is taking a Math class, the exercises that are on the homework must be answer in a piece of paper with all the steps that answer the problem. By doing this extra work, the teacher really knows if the student is learning or not. There are many benefits that getting a good grade in college has, but the most important is to not get the highest score.
