The traditional semester system is widely used in grade school and in a majority of colleges and universities. As a matter of fact, the same survey conducted by the National Association of College Stores estimated that 71.2% of colleges run on the semester system (Concordia). In the semester system, the school year is divided into two, 15 to 17-week-long halves, fall and spring, with two large breaks in between, winter and summer. The year-round school schedule is often composed of different “tracks.” A track is a set class schedule and year-round schools commonly have about three to five different tracks. For instance, if a school has tracks A, B, and C, students in each track may have different hours and weeks. Students in track A may have long schooldays that begin earlier in the morning, but longer summer and winter breaks. Students in track B may have moderately short school days with the standard 180-day school year. Students in track C may have shorter school days, most commonly starting in the afternoon, and shorter breaks scattered evenly. The possibility of designing their schedule to cater to their preferences constitutes the year-round system appealing to a great deal of
