My book report is over Michael Buckley’s Undertow. Lyric Walker is a 16 year old girl who just found out that there are new people in town. These people are of a new race called “the first men” or the “alphas”. The first men aren’t exactly what you would call the average person considering they are half human half fish. They have been living under the sea for hundereds of years until finally, they decide to march straight out of the sea into modern day Coney Island.…
Ralph started out as a strong and looked up to leader, but it all went downhill due to the stresses of making and maintaining a government, failing to protect others, and trying to escape from a fire-torn, savage populated island by himself. The growth Ralph experiences will never leave him and his innocence will never come back. He now has an intense, but true view that people are capable of the brutality and savagery he, himself experienced on that island. Him being a child and having the experiences he had, gave him the mentality of an adult.…

On her fourteenth birthday, Christy asks Vanessa to drive her convertible, but she has a car accident, hits a rock and is thrown off the seat; but Vanessa is trapped in the car that explodes and she survives even though being totally burnt. Christy is sent to Pine Bluff Psychiatric Care Center for emergency treatment while her sister is treated by her husband Dr. John Locke at home with his assistant nurse Claire Wells.…
Ralphie’s Mistake By: Yumna, Jazmynn, Dexter, and Owen Many centuries ago, in an African village, a young boy named Ralphie lived with his grandfather named John. He would help his grandfather on his farm, while he listened to the stories his grandfather told. Unfortunately, the crops never went farther then being a seed in the ground.…
The United States, as known today, is a melting pot of various different beliefs, backgrounds, and lifestyles. Some of those who reside here have roots planted as deep as the states history goes, though many come to the United States for a new beginning. Despite the vastly different background that each individual has experience, each one can call this country home. Just as the people are, traditions casted themselves onto society and deep into the history of the United States. Particularly in the south, one of the countries greatest traditions belongs to the great sport of football.…
Napoleon Bonaparte said, “A good leader deals hope. Ralph has had many major defining moments throughout the book such as him blowing the conch, becoming leader, and hitting the boar with the spear. Firstly, Ralph blowing the conch was a defining moment or him. A line that represents this moment, “A harsh deep note boomed under the palms spread through the intricacies of the forest” (Golding 17). This moment gave an immediate impression of a leader to the tribe as well as it helped him get the respect of the tribe.…
Throughout the novel The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the main character Ralph undergoes a negative change from optimistic, charismatic, civilized to depressed, lonely, and savage. In this book, a group of schoolboys crash their plane into an isolated island. As the boys gather, they decide that Ralph will be their leader. He decides wants to rule in a civilized, parliamentary way to make sure they can survive, and be rescued as soon as possible. Particularly, he changes when Ralph goes from being very civilized and orderly, to becoming more savage and unruly.…
The arguments between Ralph and Jack played a big role in the societal breakdown of the kids on the island. Right off from the beginning those two argue about being chief. That was just the beginning though they argued through the whole about various things. There fights led to violence as shown through out the book. An example of the violence coming from a fight is one that took place on top of the mountain and they argued about why Jack let the fire out and Jack punched Piggy in the eye.…
Doug is a dynamic character in many different ways. First, it says on page thirty-three it says “I hate stupid Marysville”. Then, it says on page 333 it says “I’m pretty happy in Marysville now”. These two quotes show how Doug is a dynamic character because at the beginning of the book he doesn’t enjoy Marysville at all ,but at the end he says he likes it.…
Ralph can easily be described as the protagonist of the novel. As the leader in the beginning of the story, Ralph constantly reminds the boys of their primary goal, which is to be rescued. When Ralph becomes frustrated with the attitudes of the other boys, he reprimands, “I was chief, and you were going to do what I said. You talk. But you can 't even build huts--then you go off hunting and let out the fire--” (Golding 54).…
There are certain traits that make a great leader. Those traits can be found in the character, Ralph, in Lord of the Flies, written by william Golding. As the novel opens the reader meets Ralph and Jack, who were stranded on an island with their peers. It is quickly realized that there is no adult supervision and the boys vie for position a chief. Ralph, the protagonist, is elected over Jack, the novel’s antagonist, to lead the group of young boys.…

Imagine living in a world free of materialistic judgment, where your flaws would go unnoticed and your personality would shine. In Ted Chiang’s short story, “Liking What You See” he introduces a unique fictional procedure called Calli. Calli modifies the way we view one another by altering our brains reaction to physical appearance. One can still see perfect and imperfect faces, however, the aesthetic reaction that a person feels when they look at a perfect or imperfect face is nonexistent. Calli causes people to look beyond beauty and appreciate people for who they are, instead of how they look.…
To know how Undertale tells its story, one first needs to understand the mechanics that the game runs off of, as these directly tie into how it tells its story. The game is a retro-styled, top down RPG (Role Playing Game) that follows the story of a young, genderless protagonist as they make their way through the underground (Adam). The underground is a dark place that is home to many monsters, and these characters are what makes up the bulk of the story you interact with. They vary greatly, but all of them, from the allies you meet to the final antagonist to even the frog you randomly encounter, are full of character and charm, with motives and personalities that make each unique and memorable. Some are main characters that you encounter…
A Reflection: The Danger of a Single Story As most people, my story consists of an abundance of struggle, trial and error, and also lessons. These challenges, in addition to the lessons, have brought upon stress, anxiety, and even depression into my life. They have made me question myself to the point of insanity, avoid meeting and accepting new people into my life, and even fail to uphold the bonds I had previously made with both relatives and peers. However, I cannot be defined and bound to the “single story” of my anxiety. There are many more complex stories that represent me even more adequately than the ones that correspond to the struggles I’ve faced; as there are many more stories significant to other various people, places and things…
