This is promising news for those seeking many electric alternatives to their current gas powered vehicles, but also to those who currently own an electric or hybrid vehicle. Vlasic mentions Tesla, a smaller but notable auto manufacturer that’s been creating electric vehicles for several years, but recently has triumphed over all its competition, nearly single-handidly saving the electric vehicle. Most remarkably, Vlasic describes Tesla’s new autonomous driving feature than allows the vehicle to drive itself on public roads and interstates. Tesla has paved the road for the auto industry to follow in their footsteps, and close behind them is Audi, BMW, and Chevrolet with similar technologies being released soon. Vlasic described the decline in hybrid and electric vehicle sales in the past few years, however, as evidenced by the nearly 325,000 preorders of Tesla’s newest vehicle that will be releases in 2017, the consumer’s perspective on electric cars has changed dramatically in recent months. Through this article, Vlasic has drawn attention to the outstandingly bright future for the electric car industry, and he has illustrated the remarkable possibilities for a greener tomorrow. Part II: Relation to International Studies and Globalization In a world with an ever-worsening threat of a dramatic impact from global warming, lack of enough non-renewable resources for a sustainable future, and a growing population, the idea of affordable electric replacements to our gas-guzzling vehicles is welcomed. The topic of electric cars is no new subject; however, the future of the auto industry is going to be much more densely linked to electricity and sustainability than ever before. We have discussed climate change several times throughout our international studies course, and this article ties directly with a facet of this topic: the world’s auto industry and its impact on our environment. Much of our carbon dioxide pollution is directly caused by automobile emissions, so introducing electric vehicles into the mainstream globalized populations that are currently using oil-based means of transportation would significantly reduce our impact on climate change. This article not only relates to our studies in climate change, but it also clearly illustrates globalization, a key topic we’ve referred to constantly this semester. The auto industry represents one of America’s major exports, and with a spike in global interest for making the switch to electric cars, an economic development will surely ensue when manufacturers like Telsa and Chevrolet show the world America’s inguinity and modern vanguard with their fleet of electric vehicles. Evidence of globalization is shown by how dozens of auto manufacturers in several different countries throughout the world are all investing their futures in electric and autonomous cars. The use of electric cars will have a dramatic impact on the Middle East as well. Electric vehicles will also allow developed countries to reduce their oil imports and support of destabilized Middle Eastern countries. These auto manufacturers who are developing their fleets of new electric cars are driving innovation and exploring a more independent, yet interconnected, international world. Part III: Significance and Review Gone are the days of electric cars built for hipsters that were too small, had terribly impractical ranges, or were ugly and slow hybrids. The new age of electric vehicles is upon us, and the support from car enthusiasts to soccer moms is higher than it ever has been before. As a car enthusiast
