Few movies are sought fit for a remake, but in the case of The Manchurian Candidate (1962), it presented an opportunity to update this classic political thriller into modern times. Producing a remake also presents the risk of losing the original message altogether. Both films begin with an American soldier who is essentially brainwashed into becoming an assassin utilized by his own political family, more specifically his mother, to infiltrate the presidency of America. Behind the brainwashing is the most feared villains of the time, communists in 1962 and multinational corporate interest in 2004. The basic plot takes viewers through a curvy road of uncertainty in what the outcome of the film will be or where the film will take them next.…

With the 2016 United States presidential election approaching, an abundance of people are considering the various political and economic theories that each candidate seems to uphold. For example, Bernie Sanders is a widely-known candidate who advocates for socialism, a theory based on equality of opportunity. He has brought back a theory most politicians have thrown to the wayside, and it has even been considered a ‘dead’ theory. The voting population is looking at these seemingly new political ideas, and reevaluating the capitalist political systems that have been maintained throughout the nation for years. This is seen through a political, economic, and social lens, because these two systems have untold effects on society as a whole, as the…

The End of Bernie Sanders and His Fake Political Revolution At last, the long national nightmare of the Democratic Party’s Presidential Primary race is over. Senator Bernie Sanders, who arguably ran a spirited campaign albeit, a disingenuous, demagogic and unrealistic one, (though he has yet to formally concede defeat) has finally acknowledged that his path to the nomination is all but over. As a liberal, I know this is a provocative piece and one that is bound to be unpopular among young progressives. Also, given the full-scale efforts with which the Democratic “establishment” are courting Senator Sanders, treating him with kid gloves and twisting themselves into pretzels in the hope that he will quietly go away, I am certain this article…

Bernie Sanders is a former mayor of Burlington, a House of Representatives congressmen representing Vermont, and was elected to the U.S Senate in 2006 ("Meet Bernie Sanders."). To start off with, we must talk about one of Sanders strongest traits: consistency. Often advertised as a principled candidate, Sanders finds himself on, looking retroactively, the right side of history on numerous occasions. Marching with Martin Luther King, and even being arrested, during the Civil Rights Movement, voting against the Iraq War, which most inside the United States was a bad decision now that the dust has settled, and being a long-standing ally of the LGBTQ community from as early as 1972 being just a few examples of how Sanders has shown that the values he holds today are the same as he had when first approaching politics (“BERNIE SANDERS…”). Sanders does not advertise himself simply as a democrat, but as a democratic socialist.…
