I agree with Dorothy Robert one hundred and ten percent. Race is a political grouping. It is not a biological category, so why do we make it one? There is scientific evidence to prove that people of all races are the same. “Chimpanzees have races; honeybees have races; we don’t have races.” There is only one human race. Human beings are not divided into races in the biological sense. “But if race is a political system, then we must use political means to end its harmful impact on our society.” Robert’s talks about how as a society we need to come together and make a difference. We look at the world through a “racial lens.” It affects where we attend church, where we live, who we vote for, and who we marry. It has a huge impact and how we go about our everyday lives. Everywhere we go we judge people on the color of their skin. Why should race be a political system that governs people by sorting them into social groupings? It shouldn’t be, but what made us this way? We have been referring to the invented rules we have been taught ever since we were born. We, as Americans, are so used to filtering our impressions of people. We start doing it as such a young age. We have been taught to start this process at such an early age that now it is the norm to us. We don’t even realize we are judging people as we do it.
