2 June 2017 Men’s vs. Women’s Rights Movements
The issue of gender equality throughout the world is being discussed more and more every passing day, yet nothing has been made of it. Staggering arguments pile upon one another leading to none other than additional arguments formulated specifically to bash the arguments of their opposers. The feminist movement for equality amongst men and women focuses mainly on the betterment of women to become “equal” to the “already superior” males. However, there are many male based groups who believe that men are at a significant disadvantage to women based on gender roles established by societies long ago. This consistent back and forth bombardment of distasteful name calling and brutal hatred for one another has only hindered the progress which is sought after by both movements alike. The traditionally observed and discussed argument is that of the feminists. Consistently, throughout the media one will hear about the oppression and social degradation of women by the male’s “dominant position” on the societal ladder. They argue that men hold more positions in the higher ranking jobs, having that only 4.6% of all fortune 500 CEO’s are female. Most publicly noticed feminists are symbolized to be a plasterboard for negative influence towards all people that must be stopped, yet the true meaning of the movement is just to bring women to the same level as men in the assumed social ranking of the world we live in. Although this seems highly unorthodox as males are generally seen as the more dominant sex, MRA’s believe that the position males play which is considered dominant by many, is actually a detrimental position to take. Studies have proven that 93% of workplace deaths are male, four of five suicides are male, and 76% of homicides are male. These statistics are some of the leading examples of why men feel like they truly have a lesser stance. Upon the original creation of the Forced Labour Convention in May 2017, the document read that “Only adult able-bodied males who are of an apparent age of not less than 18 and not more than 45 years may be called upon for forced or compulsory labour.” Having been removed later, this issue was resolved, but just the fact that it occurred in the first place shows that men are seen as more disposable. Supporting this, the military draft for the United States only requires that male citizens sign up to be sent away if ever necessary. This brings forth another commonly accepted societal rule. The “women and children first” rule implies that men are not as important as the women and are expected to be able to be left behind if need
