This book about female masculinity has given a new understanding of masculine behaviours and identities, a new way into the various features and situational aspects of the construction of female masculinity. She examines how society perceives masculinity differently when it is a characteristic of women, not men. I enjoyed reading about tom boys, the butches, bathroom problems, and understanding the basic gender issues. What I really liked was how the author at every step of the book gave examples and case studies for a better understanding. Through this book, we come back to the main base of the where female masculinity came about from, the basic difference between a man and a woman. The reason one hears more about men being feminine rather than woman being masculine is an indication to the stratification of hierarchy between the two genders. The male gender has always been at the upper ladder of the hierarchy and hence gets more importance. Female masculinity is not just about females wanting to dress and behave in a manly way but somewhere socially been embedded.
