Jack Finney, who is the author, adequately applies imagery to create create a feeling of actually being in the story. Sitting outside on the ledge, Tom, “could hear the buttons of his jacket scraping steadily along the rough bricks and feel them catch momentarily, tugging a little, at each mortared crack.” Vividly, the detailed, described sentence describes exactly how the moment took place.
