Reflection: Fearless Girl And The Charging Bull

Superior Essays
When I first started this project, I really had no idea where I was going to start. I know that I love to write, I love to create characters and make them come to life. First, I thought of what I was going to do for my support piece and originally, I was going to create a non-fiction story, but it quickly turned into a poem. I have recently been to New York City and one of the attractions that I had to see was the Fearless Girl and The Charging Bull. While thinking of these statues I started to piece a poem together about the statues and what my point of view is when I look at them. After the poem started to form, I went to my primary piece. I knew from the start that I wanted the bull to be named Abaddon. With some research, I found out that …show more content…
I feel that I have no issue with showing the reader rather than telling them. But, I do have issues with how I use my tenses while I write. Before this class, I would find myself writing in the third person and I wanted to try out first person and really get into the character’s shoes. But, what I have learned is that writing in present tense in first person is much more difficult than I thought it was going to be. With some help and patience from the class, instructor and family I have a better grasp on the issue. But, it is something that I will have to train and practice so that I can make better habits when it comes to …show more content…
I was terrified when I called and said this is what I want to do with my life. But, I knew that I needed a change in what I was doing, I needed an education. I had to learn everything all over again. I had no idea how to write or format an essay. I wondered if I made the right choice. When people say the struggle is real they are not lying. I pushed myself each day and I read things over and over until they stuck. I watched videos on how to format a simple essay heading. Now, I can do MLA format with no problem. My grammar was also an issue and now I receive fewer errors from instructors. Overall, I grew as a student, researcher and writer. I know that my time at SNHU has done nothing but improved everything I wanted to improve. Even though I still have issues with writing, the difference since I started school is

On the first day of class, I felt pretty confident about my level of skills as a writer, but little did I know there were a lot of aspects in my writing that could be improved. As time progressed and we learned more about colloquial language and little things I could change in my essays to further advance and improve my writing. Now, I feel even more confident about my writing and know that all of these little changes I can make in my writing create a better flow of ideas and a higher level of formality. I feel that throughout this semester I have been greatly challenged as a writer and have advanced the most that I ever have in writing within such a short period of time. I have put in a lot time and effort into this class in order to create…

In the book Letters to My Daughters poet Maya Angelou wrote, “I am a spring leaf trembling in anticipation of full growth” (163). The anticipation Ms. Angelou speaks of is an accurate description of how I feel about becoming a thirty-six year old college freshman. In addition to anticipation; anxiety, self-doubt, and dogged determination are on the list of emotions I am experiencing. In January of 2015, I applied to South Plains College, bringing me one step closer to becoming a Physician’s Assistant.…

Throughout my educational career standardized testing has been a major part in determining whether or not you can proceed to the next grade or whether you have to take the class again. A Lot of kids that were my age when I had to take the STAAR test usually dreaded having to take a standardized test like the STAAR English II exam. I was no different, I was one of those kids who just wanted to get this test done with and move one. For a while this philosophy of mine worked, however that all would change when I ended up failing the English II STAAR test during my sophomore year of high school. Thus leading to a change in how I would view standardized testing and how my writing composition skills would eventually improve and affect my life.…

My decision to return to college was purely random. There was no pondering over the decision; no weighing in the pros and cons, no thinking it through or any real thought behind it. I literally woke up one morning and said to myself “I think I’ll go back to college” and I made the call. I called the College of New Rochelle and made the appointment for the admissions test. And before I knew what was actually happening, I was a matriculated college student.…

I’ve chosen to focus on “Exploration and Argumentation” as the subject of this reflective introduction, specifically looking at my argument paper, “Abortion: Right or Wrong?” as a reference to the importance of this learning outcome. I chose to focus on this particular learning outcome because it was the most difficult essay for me to create. While writing this essay it was difficult for me to understand and reciprocate the opposing viewpoint. Understanding an unfamiliar idea and giving ideas for or against a topic is key to creating a fluent argumentative essay.…
