Truman claimed that as Japan was refusing unconditional surrender, it was the only way to end the war faster. America should have negotiated with Japan to come to a compromise such as allowing Japan to keep their emperor as they had requested.
After the bombing, America faced judgment for having used a “terrible weapon”. Truman set up the U.S Strategic Bombing Survey Group to study and report on the air attacks on Japan. They produced a report in 1946 that concluded “Japan
