There were two participants invited to join this project. The first participants Ambor is a 31 years old female from Taiwan. Now she is a store manager of Daiso in Brisbane (large-scale retail stores sell thousands of product under 3 dollars). According to her words, she described herself as a traditional Taiwanese with a good Australia culture integration. Taiwanese culture constitutes by local Taiwanese culture, Hakka culture and new culture brought by mainlanders. On the other hand, since Taiwan was under Japanese rule for 50 years (1895 - 1945) and the profound impact of contemporary Europe pop culture, Taiwanese culture also combines with Japanese, European and Ameriacan culture (Heylen 2013). Influenced by her westernization family, Ambor has contacted western culture especially American culture since she was young. After she graduated from college, she started her work in two different commercial banks which were Citibank and ctbcbank. Also, in her spare time during college, she worked in Dasio Taiwan co. as a part time sales assistant. At the beginning of 2013, she finished her master degree in Queensland University of Technology.

And then she got a job offer from Daiso in Brisbane. Although Ambor had nearly two years study and living experience in Australia, she found there were some barriers for her to integrate with this new working environment. Language was not a serious problem for Ambor. The key issues were fair treatment, views of life and communication style. When Ambor started as a sales assistant in Daiso of Chermside, her store manager treated her as a “foreign labour without education”. Most of her colleagues were friendly but some of them thought Ambor was not qualified for her work. Even now she had been promoted to a store manager because of her excellent performance, she said frankly that she still need to work harder than other stores’ managers in order to obtain the head office’s trust. Meanwhile, local’s views of value, work, and money are difference with her native culture. As a store manager, Ambor needs to figure out the problem in different ways. If a staff distracted and makes some mistakes during the work, she has to point out the problem politely and ask if there are some persona issues with him. While in Taiwan, managers are more likely to criticize the staff no matter what happen to him. Ambor had the working experience in Daiso both Taiwan and Australia. The operation pattern and employee relations are quite different. Now she has adjusted herself to accommodate working in Australia and her performance was outstanding (top three sales volume around the whole Australia). The second participant is a junior asset management consultant in iSolutions International Pty Ltd. His name is Yihang Wang. Yihang is a 25 years old Chinese man who came to Australia since 16 years old. He positioned himself as an absolute Australian. In the year of 2014, Yihang experienced a 5 months business trip in Indonesia. He had never been there before and this was really a challenge for him. But Yihang is a passionate young guy who has the courage to face the challenge. Yihang experienced an impeccable supported by his company. He was trained by a veteran colleague before departure. He also worked with the company’s Chief Operating Officer and a senior consultant in Jakarta. During

This is why it is important for self-efficacy to remain high for recovering addicts. One’s commitment to abstinence is a strong predictor for motivation in the reductions of drug and alcohol use. Js221 Consumer Culture

JS2225 Marketing and Consumer Culture in Japan was an eye-opening module that greatly changed my perspectives on marketing strategies of firms and consumption patterns of consumers. Marketing, according to the American Marketing Association (2013), is defined as “the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large” while consumer culture is a broad term that generally refers to the way consumers choose or behave in relation to their consumption. After the commencement of my learning journey in JS2225, I realised how closely marketing and consumer culture are interlinked. To successfully enter the market, regardless local or foreign, one has to understand the culture of the consumers or else, they may face difficulties such as unable to appeal to the consumers. Among the many topics covered in the lectures, week 4’s lecture on market…
