What does it take to be extraordinary? To be extraordinary, and to make a name for yourself in the world, you must have ambition; a strong desire to achieve your goals. Some goals are much larger than others, but no goals are unattainable when you wield a strong will and passion to obtain them. This book is about a young girl, named Lakshmi. She resides in the mountains of Nepal, coming from a very poor family. She was tricked into thinking she was going to a large city to be a maid for a wealthy family. She had been relocated to a larger city to work in the sexual trafficking ring. She refuses to work at the beginning, but she soon realizes that it is a life or death situation. She was told by the boss that once she pays her debt, she will be freed. During her time spent at the brothel, she meets a young boy she refers to as the “David Beckham boy”. The boy taught her english, and spent time with her, they became very good friends. Lakshmi thought about fleeing the brothel, but she heard stories about the girls who escaped. Once they were caught, they had their head shaved so everyone in the city knew they had tried to escape. “At the center of the group, a girl my age crouches in the dirt. Her scalp is freshly shaved.” (McCormick) They were severely beaten, some occurrences resulted in death. After a long time spent at the brothel, around a year and a half, a man walked into her room, portraying himself as a client so he could go in and see her. He asked her if she was being held there against her will. She was scared to tell him because she knew what could happen, but she told him yes.
