How many kids have been rescued because of amber alerts?
The U.S. Department of Justice says that “881 children rescued specifically because of AMBER Alert”
Today I’ll be talking about AMBER alerts
In my speech I’ll be telling you about what the AMBER Alert is and why it’s called amber alert, what it’s supposed to be for, and the criteria is to issue an AMBER alert
My first point is, what is AMBER Alert and why is it called that?
Why is it called amber alert?
According to the U.S. Department of justice, the AMBER Alert stands for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response.
The AMBER alert was also named after Amber Hagerman, who was nine years old who went missing
Now you know what the AMBER alert is and how it started I’ll tell you what

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says, “The mission of the AMBER Alert Program is to develop and coordinate the efforts of law enforcement, the media, and transportation to increase public participation in safely recovering abducted children through targeted education, increased communication, and effective sharing of resources.”
The amber alert is to make sure missing kids are recovered safely after being abducted. Since the AMBER alert has been passed many kids have been recovered. At the beginning of my speech I told you that the U.S. department of justice says that 881 children were rescued specifically because of the AMBER alert. When someone issues an AMBER Alert a message is sent out through the media so everyone knows who to look for, which is the kid and the kidnapper. They are also looking for the kind of vehicle
The kidnapper drives and what they and the kid were wearing at the time of the kidnapping. The only bad thing about AMBER alert is that there are criteria before they send out an amber

There is enough descriptive information about the child, abductor, and/or suspect's vehicle to believe an immediate broadcast alert will help.
The reason these criteria are so important is that if someone issues an amber alert, and it doesn’t meet the criteria, you can get arrested. Also, if you issue an AMBER alert for every single missing child (runaways, kidnappings, and etc.) the effect of a missing child would Lessing because you would be getting alerts almost every single day, because there are so many runaway kids.
Now I will move on to my conclusions
Today I informed you about why it’s called AMBER alert, what it does and what the criteria is someone needs to meet before they issue an AMBER alert.
If AMBER alert was never made I’m positive that so many missing kids today would not have been able to be recovered.

The only credible evidence that there is pointing to a stranger is DNA. The broken window in the basement, is not credible. This is because it is easy to frame someone else by doing this. Mandated Reporting Essay

    • 730 Words
    • 3 Pages

Many professionals, especially those in the mental health field, are required by law to report any suspected child or elder abuse. Mandated reporting is a law and anyone in the position of mandated reporting must abide by this law. However, for many, reporting does not always come easy. Flaherty (2006) states that the terms used to promote mandated reporting of child abuse in state laws vary by state but initially mean “reasonable suspicion” and, although an ambiguous term, it is purposely kept this way to promote reporting. The ambiguity of mandated reporting terms seem to be the cause of underreporting of child abuse because physicians are not able to accurately interpret the meaning of terms such as “reasonable suspicion” (Flaherty, 2006).…

America has many important problems that need help and solutions. One of those issues is child abuse. Child abuse is one of the biggest problems in America, “more than five children die every day as a result of child abuse” (Tennyson Center For Children). Regrettably, in the 80’s and early 90’s and even before that, child abuse was not an issue that could be solved by a social worker, rather it was an unseen issue, an issue that not even the authority could intervene. Fortunately, in the late 80’s non governmental charities came into existence to devote to child protection.…
