Every big mistake has a resolution. My home in the Amazon Rainforest is being destroyed day by day, soon to be gone. I, Watermelondrea am a Native Amazonian. Watermelondrea is what people like to call me, but I like to go by Watermelondrea. I am a 14 year old living in the Amazon Rainforest. My ancestors, the Native Amazonians, have lived here for over 12,000 years, and my family for as long as they can remember. This is the beginning of my journal about saving my home. I mean, we live in the biggest rainforest in the world. We Amazonians settled on a very small size of land. We cut the trees down and clear it. We use this to farm our main food source. When the land becomes infertile we leave and move on to a new land, after using it for very long amounts of time. Over time, the land goes through an ecological succession and plants and trees grow back. We eventually come back to this land and use it once again unlike cattle ranchers, loggers, and settlers. We get a lot of our food from hunting and fishing as well. Deforestation, more people coming in, and land conflicts are destroying our home, and leave less of the resources we have used forever in our traditional way of life, like our reusable land, fishing spots, and hunting. Unlike others in the forest, we have not damaged our environment at all like the others coming in, and never plan on it, therefore we should be able to keep all of our land since we use it appropriately. We simply don’t harm the forest like others coming to deplete our natural
