He is a man about survival, love, and brotherhood. Survival is what the body is made to do. It has many different parts that keep it going and alive. Love cannot be summed up in words. Paul expresses love through his actions in the story. He has a great heart. Brotherhood is the bond between people that strengthens you and motivates you when you have nothing left to give. It isn't the kindest of human qualities but it is a major human quality. Most warriors in war aims to survive the war and go back home. Warriors take whatever steps needed to survive. Sometimes those steps aren't morally right but they are needed to live. Survival is the main component of war. Every warrior in war aims to survive the war and go back home. Paul's ultimate goal in the war is to survive and read his books and see his family at home. Warriors take whatever steps needed to survive. But surviving can change you. Paul was changed into two people. One person was his side that was kind and loved his books. The other person was the war Paul who killed to survive. Both sides of him did not like the war but his survival side suits better for the war. The poetic side of him was trying to survive in its own way. Poet Paul was in a battle in the war to not be desroyed completely by the war. Paul in a whole was trying to survive along with his poetic side. In the end both of them die but they both battled hard throughout the story to
