Seven Samurai is considered by many to be Akira Kurosawa’s magnum opus and his longest at nearly three and a half hours. The film follows a group of samurai who defend a village from bandits, and train their occupants to fight back against their oppressors. Each of the samurai were based on real people from Japanese history. For each of the seven samurai, Kurosawa created a bible of their likes, dislikes, favorite food, their past, speaking patterns, habits and anything else he could think about them. The residents of the village even had family trees created to help show relationships. This, along with the detailed character descriptions were something never before done by a Japanese director. (IMDB). The film started the trope of a hero creating a team to take down the main bad guys, something still seen in movies to this
