Akasha, or Spirit, is simply the fifth element. While most everyone is familiar with Earth, Air, Fire and Water, Akasha is what binds these elements together. Akasha would be the same as white light – the combination of all colors, indicating that Akasha is all Elements in one.
When I think of Akasha, I think of Spirit. When I explain to others with Christian faith on my perspective of God, I explain to them that I have a personal relationship with “God” which is my own business. I don’t perceive “God” as “He”, but as everything. Neither he nor she, nor do I envision as a force with human personification and features. To me, this is Akasha – the binding force that holds everything together and is connected to everything. …show more content…
In Hinduism, Akasha is the first element that has derived from the astral plane. They believe it to be base of all things in the material world. While in Buddhism, it is viewed into two segments: unlimited space and divided space. Akasha is also made referenced to the Akashic Records, however, not the exact same but can be connected as Spirit is a part of everything.
In Pagan beliefs, Akasha is seen as unchanging. This brings me to an interesting debate though. Many years ago, I adopted the philosophy that the only thing that is constant and unchanging, is change itself. This is a term that I would use to make reference to a higher source of energy or power. I make many references to Spirit rather than to God or Goddess, as I feel Spirit is what binds both when needing the term in general discussion. However, I do look towards deities in regards to different subject matters. I worship Brigid and call on her when it comes to connecting to my Celtic ancestral roots and when I need direction with home, hearth, creative drive, crafts, healing, herbs, children and the homestead. Meanwhile, when it comes to serious business outside of home, hearth and homestead, I look to Hecate for guidance. It is explained as an energy that connects all elements and planes of existence together. It is a part of every living thing and vibes pure energy between us all. When I would be in discussion with Christian friends, I’d tell them that “God” is neither a he or a she, let alone the form of a human. “God” is energy and that energy is pure love. To me, that is what Akasha is – energy in it’s purest form that we can all embrace and learn from.
I have a hard time explaining how to define Akasha as there are several different references to it. In pagan beliefs, it is seen as being the Fifth Element, but in Hinduism, it is the First Element. However, I automatically thought of and answered as if it were Akashic Records at first, which are not the same, but I can see where there could be a connection. The Akashic Records is all records of the past, present and future pertaining to everyone and everything’s existence – “The Astral Library” is how I like to imagine
