Imagine you were walking through campus just like any other day, pacing quickly so you must not be late to your next class. Out of nowhere, right before you are about to step into the building of your desired destination, you hear a gunshot. You witness a man bust out of the double doors of the building next to the building you are standing at. He is holding a handgun and he begins to unload the bullets onto every student he lays eyes on. Everyone begins to run in the opposite direction of the shooter. You stand there motionless, distraught from fear, caught in the middle of the contemplation of if you should be the hero or if you should run for your life like everyone else. Even if you unselfishly decided to do something about the man wielding the gun, how would you approach him? The only thing you possess that could even be considered a weapon, if properly used, is a dull pointed number two pencil. Yeah you can dial 911, but how many innocent people are going to lose their lives while the infidel has his 10 minutes of “fame?” You are forced to flee into the building before the man notices you. For some reason, every door to every classroom is locked and no one will let you in. There is no other option but to take shelter in the bathroom, and pray to God that you will live to see another day. After you hide in the bathroom for 30 minutes you hear multiple gunshots and 5 minutes later you hear over the intercom that it is now safe to come out of hiding. In the end, 20 people get shot and 10 of those 20 people lost their lives. What if someone could’ve done something about the murderer before he got the chance to shoot more victims? There is easily one simple answer for that question, concealed carry. What is concealed carry? If you are not aware of what concealed carry is, then let me respectfully inform you. The political party that is against concealed carry on campus is the Democrats, not all of them are against it, but most the people in the democratic party are heavily against the issue. The democrats that are against the law that makes it legal to have a firearm on yourself, have multiple counter arguments and opinions. I am going to list some of their arguments, and then follow their opinions with why their argument is invalid. Some people are afraid that guns on campuses would lead to an escalation in violent crimes that might lead to a homicide in each situation. Since 2006 multiple states have made it legal to carry a gun on a college campus with the required permit. Likewise, none of the states have had an increase spike in gun violence because of legalizing concealed handgun carry. (http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com) People against concealed carry on campuses also state that it would distract other students from learning in the classroom. The word “concealed” is there for a reason. The gun is not in sight and must remain that way unless a certain situation occurs that may put that person or his/her peers in any sort of life threatening
