Much like America, it consists of three branches, Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. In 2004, Hamid Karzai, was elected president. He served two terms as president until 2014. The current president is Ashraf Ghani winning by 56.44% of the popular electorate. Afghanistan is blatantly one of the most corrupt governments in the world. Both of the presidential elections were rife with controversy and election rigging. The country has 34 provinces or states, with each province having its own capitol and governor. Afghanistan’s economy is recovering from decades of war. Afghanistan has shown progress in the sectors of agriculture and service industries. Nevertheless, the country is still extremely poor and highly dependent on foreign aid. The population as a whole continues to suffer from shortages in housing, clean water, medical care, electricity, and jobs. A lack of infrastructure and weak governance has lead to lawlessness and increases in criminality. This leaves little hope for the future of Afghanistan and its people. In order to overcome this circumstance, Afghans must work together for peace and
