For the past 12 months I have occupied a position as a Farm Household Case Officer based in the Warwick Service Centre servicing customers in the Warwick, Stanthorpe, Texas and Tenterfield regions. In this time I have travelled to several different locations to engage with stakeholders, colleagues and clients to discuss the FHA program and my role as a FHCO. I have presented information to colleagues that occupy the Centrelink sites, Assess sites and Agent sites within my region to assist with any problems, risks or uncertainties that staff within these sites have and assisted with service of my FHA customers. Through my travels around my region I have been able to learn a great deal about the issues affecting rural farmers and their…

During the first half of the semester for ENC 1102, I believe that my writing skills have improved from ENC 1101; some of which are getting to page length, correctly citing a source, and incorporating how a quote is related to my argument. I still have some errors within my writing that I have not quite figured out how to tackle. Some concepts that I have not gotten down to a tee must be coming up with a thesis statement, basic grammar errors, introducing quotations, and repetition. I have also learned how to distinguish the difference between a personal essay and an argumentative essay with first hand on the two types and how why my grade differed from essay one and two.…
I will give a quick overview of the VSim we were supposed to do/attempt and I will go into detail of the VSim its self for this reflective journal. Our patient is a 54-year-old man named Carl Shapiro. Carl arrived to the emergency department (ED) at 13:30 having complaints of angina, diaphoresis, and shortness of breath. The physician had Carl treated with two doses of sublingual nitroglycerin and a dose of aspirin in the ED. The nurse started an IV infusion of normal saline running at a rate of 25 mL/hour.…
My responsibility for this workshop was to proceed with a handover of a patient to an intern (played by Dr. Michael Adamson). This was a particularly disasterous session. My performance was not only unfit within the scope of academic criteria, but was clearly short of acceptable for a real-world SBAR. During the reading of the scenario I was daunted by the task of having to SBAR report a patient to admission at a hostpital, based on information I was reading for the first time; my practice with the hand-over system was minimal prior to the session.…
Unbeknownst to me, 1988 was the year of change when I started working with the Army Child Development Services where I was responsible for two classrooms with a total of sixty wonderful five year olds and four employees. My duties included the development of a weekly-monthly educational curriculum following federal regulations, providing counseling as needed, and the documentation of each individual child’s development throughout the year. Back stateside I began reading and training with my local SCORE group in owning a business. Opened a small clothing retail store, where OTJ brought a new meaning. During the first year, I learned everything from how to write, follow and completely understand a business plan to sales forecasting, purchasing,…
During my time in high school, I expose myself to various fields through extracurricular activities that have provided necessary skills. The JROTC program has improved my public speaking and collaborative skills. JROTC is an Army based program that exposes today's youth to first-hand leadership roles. They exercise the importance of moral qualities as well as expanding intellectual capabilities. I am constantly presenting various lessons to my peers and with the feedback given I am able to to improve in an aspect I am lacking in.…
The leadership role in which I have had the greatest positive influence in has been as the Fine Arts Commissioner in ASB. As the Fine Arts Commissioner, it is my responsibility to showcase the performing arts in any way I possibly can, and while I have successfully done that, I’ve also successfully created a new rally that now occurs every year. Even though last year was my first year on ASB, I still made an impact on my school by taking charge of said new rally. My ASB director wanted to try having an on-campus winter dance before winter break and we figured the best way to promote the new dance would be through a rally. In addition, my ASB director didn’t want to have cheer and dance perform in this rally, for they perform in every other…
David Starkey’s lecture on the 1215 Magna Carta started my interest for law. The Laws of the Magna Carta very much affected the people of 1215 whether that be the barons or the monarch himself, and the same can be said in today’s society, that the law affects everyone. Henceforth, my chosen area of which I would like to study is law. In a world of change, I believe that is important for laws to be changed and for new laws to be introduced so that they reflect the concerns and ideas of the current civilisation. Personally, I conscientiously keep up to date with current issues and affairs because I think it is imperative to know about this and how it affects not only you but everyone else.…
Upon reflection of the EDF5141 Health unit. I believe it has assisted me in gaining some skills which will result in helping me reach my goals as a teacher. These goals I have for myself align with two Australian Professional Teaching Standards (APST) by the AITSL. These include ‘knowing the content and how to teach it’ and ‘plan for and implement effective teaching and learning’. ‘Knowing the content and how to teach it’ is a standard from the Professional Knowledge section and talks about the knowledge you have for the subject and understanding how it should be taught which suits the learning style of the students whilst aligning with the Australian government's requirements.…
The department of Children and Families (DCF) is a strength-based agency that works to protect children from neglect and abuse. Working with families to build a rapport after removing the child could be challenging for a worker. It is essential to use the proper skills to build a working relationship by building rapport; gaining trust and caring for your clients. Working with children requires sensitivity, empathy, compassion and a love for children. Throughout my internship I realized just how empathic I am with my clients and also how to set professional boundaries.…
Background: Women who are incarcerated while pregnant, receive no birthing education while in most prisons in the United States. In many states, incarcerated women in labor are transported to the nearest birthing center and are shackled to the labor bed with one armed guard inside the room and another outside the door. They often labor alone because they are not allowed to have a support person. The nurse on duty, is the only form of support they depend upon. Unfortunately, evidence indicates that many of the nurses have a punitive attitude toward the incarcerated patient, resulting in inadequate care.…
DMS has served as an welcoming sanctuary to me as a student. Since my freshman year, I had been exposed and moved by the many influences DMS has been working toward the various minority groups here at the Texas A&M campus. Throughout my college career, being a part of the DMS has allowed me to come out of my comfort zone to meeting new people, and inspired me to take action on raising awareness about cultural identity and acceptance. Therefore, the DMS has taken an extremely special place in my heart that I hope will not…
The biggest benefit of being a student at the AMFS is the connections that I will make. This is a very large festival with some of the best students and faculty in the country and getting to meet and perform with these musicians an incredible opportunity. I will also get the chance to focus on my solo playing and technique. Getting two months worth of private lessons from such a renowned teacher will be amazing. I actually had the chance to play for Professor Adkins when he was on the panel of my Juilliard Audition.…
The science of information management is growing extremely important as international businesses are turning more complex with each passing year, and knowledge required to excel in the aforementioned field is also getting further involved. With my substantial professional background in computers and telecommunications, I have gained interest and turned out be skillful in this field. However, with each new assignment, the thorough knowledge of information management is becoming imperative. My extensive work experience in information and Communication domain is making it absolutely exigent to have the managerial grasp with comprehensive technical knowledge if I am to prepare myself for the inevitable challenge of a successful career. Such an…
