I. Introduction Our client, Shawn Kemp (“Kemp”) has filed suit against Janice Matier (“Janice”) alleging Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress (“IIED”). The suit is based on Janice’s unauthorized posting of our client’s personal information through the use of social media with a caption that posted GPS coordinates of Kemps house. Kemp alleges Janice’s Twitter post has caused him IIED. Janice’s conduct was not extreme and outrageous when she posted the picture, because her conduct was not atrocious and utterly intolerable in a civilized community. Janice’s post did have a causal connection because Kemp’s distress is directly attributable to Janice’s conduct.…
Stress can be defined as the feeling of being too much mental and emotional pressure. Stress is not necessarily something bad, it all depends on how you take it (Selye, 1956). Posttraumatic stress disorder is defined on WebMD as, “a serious condition that can develop after a person has experienced or witnessed a traumatic or terrifying event in which serious physical harm occurred or was threatened (Posttraumatic).” What this definition does not inform you about is the thousands of lives that are affected by PTSD and the countless men and women who have taken their life. The war in Vietnam, the Iraq/Afghanistan conflict, and the advancements in modern combat have and are still playing a dominant role in the suffering of thousands of veterans across America. To talk about the effect of PTSD, one must first know what it is and how it affects our behavior. PTSD usually appears in victims about three months after the…
During a crisis event, the biggest difference in Acute Stress Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is that the ASD is the stress that happens here and now. The disorders can function in two completely different ways but may have the same symptoms. In ASD, one of the difference is that you are diagnosis with ASD within the first month from the traumatic experience. If the symptoms of the traumatic event were to continue beyond that month, the psychotherapist would then assess that the patient has a case of PTSD. ASD would then have no need to apply itself in this aspect of care.…
Throughout each and every one of our lives, traumatic experiences may happen causing trauma to occur in our life for a short period of time. However, in some cases people experience chronic trauma that continues or repeats for months or even years at a time. Since C-PTSD or Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, is not an official diagnosis, rather an additional sub-diagnosis for PTSD: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. C-PTSD has damaging effects on several individuals which is growing each and every day when there are treatment options available to better each person affected. Complex PTSD has several serious symptoms which many do not realize.…
The Holocaust was a time when people gave everything they had in order to survive. The ones that made it out alive continued to fight after liberation and their fight continues today. Every survivor was impacted in a way unimaginable and in a way that most may never understand. Survivors did not have an easy time after liberation because they had nothing to call their own, which dramatically impacted them emotionally, physically, and mentally. Being liberated after surviving one of the worst genocides in the history of the world, seems like it would be a good thing.…
As a former marine, 4acute stress disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder are conditions that I have witnessed first-hand. The textbook defines 1acute stress disorder as an anxiety disorder in which fear and related symptoms are experienced soon after a traumatic event and last less than a month. A diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is made when those symptoms last longer than a month. The signs and symptoms of acute stress disorder and PTSD are very similar and 2include re- experiencing the traumatic event, avoidance of activities that remind the person of the traumatic experience, reduced responsiveness and dissociation, increased arousal, negative emotions, and guilt (Comer, 2017; p. 143).…

The other day we watched a documentary called " Defiant Requiem" by Maestro Sidlin in one of my classes. To be honest with you this movie reminded me a bit of that movie "The Pianist". Modern day society is constantly moving and eliciting high profiles and demands while carrying with it both physical and psychological effects. These effects are commonly known as stress. Every person in this world has been under some sort of stress, whether it be big or small. How we react to the strain on both our minds and bodies can determine how well we cope under this prolonged stress, or better known as chronic stress. When presented under tension our bodies react by operating interconnected neuroendocrine circuits (Mariotti, 2015).…
In society today, nearly millions of people suffer from stress everyday. Stress is a natural part of life. The expressions are familiar to us, “I’m stressed out,” “I’m under too much stress,” or “Work is one big stress.” Stress is hard to define because it means different things to different people; however, it’s clear that most stress is a negative feeling rather than a positive feeling. While some people believe stress can be healthy, it can be argued that excessive stress is unbearable because stress can lead to depression, anxiety disorder, and suicide.…
