Two Puritan Women and One Goal: Win the heart of a Man Within the Puritan community, there have been young girls who have been “victims” of witchcraft that has been going on in the village. This has brought chaos into the village, and the Salem Witch Trials began to take shape within the village. In Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible, Puritans are driven by fear and they would turn against one another within a couple of seconds when they are accused of witchcraft. Fear and revenge rests inside of Abigail Williams’, the ring master of the victimized girls, tainted heart while purity resides within Elizabeth Proctor, a loyal wife to John Proctor. Her deceptive skills manage to manipulate the village into thinking that witchcraft is real in Salem, Massachusetts. Abigail then falsely accuses Elizabeth Proctor for sending out her spirit on to her. Cheever, who was in charge of taking in Elizabeth for witchcraft, claimed, “… Abigail Williams… falls to the floor… stuck two inches in the flesh of her belly, he draw a needle out… she testify it were your wife’s familiar spirit who pushed it in” (Miller 71). Abigail uses the poppet that was given to Elizabeth by Mary Warren, another girl who was also a victim of witchcraft, to accuse Elizabeth of witchcraft. Abigail wants revenge on Elizabeth for taking away John Proctor. A couple of months ago, John had committed adultery. He was married with Elizabeth, but he cheated on her with Abigail who was the Proctor’s servant during that period of time. However, Elizabeth found out, and she and John decided to dismiss Abigail as their servant. Believing that Elizabeth did not want her to take away John, Abigail decided to accuse Elizabeth
