When all the girls are in the room and Betty is laying on the bed acting as if she was put under some type of curse. Abigail tried to wake her up before anyone could believe that Betty was cursed. Once everyone is worried about Betty and wants to know what is happening, Abigail is getting jealous of all the attention she was getting. She had already pointed fingers at Tituba, now that Tituba is in the room getting all the attention; abigail then does not like that and exaggerates what really happens and says, “Sometimes I wake and find myself standing in the open doorway and not a stitch on my body! I always hear her laughing in my sleep. I hear her singing her barbados songs and tempting me with-” (Miller 930-933). When really, none of that really happens to Abigail.

Since there is no proof that they were doing witchcraft, they just took Abigail’s word for it. Sometimes the victims cannot even save themselves and lie about doing witchcraft to stay alive. No one really gets into trouble if they do admit it. Once they accuse Mary she tries to come clean about it saying that everyone is lying there is no evil spirits. Abigail easily played it off, and was pretending she was getting attacked by Mary’s evil spirit. “But God made my face; you cannot want to tear my face.
