High school came easy. The academics didn’t provide a challenge, I aced tests without having to study for them. Furthermore, extracurricular activities didn’t provide a challenge either, I played tennis on the varsity team and provided leadership for the speech and debate team. I surrounded myself with people who always said work hard will mold me into successful young man.…
I believe it is safe to say that a lot of our four years in high school weren’t the best ones of our life with all the school work, puberty, teen angst, social ladders, and other problems it causes a lot of stress and makes us feel alienated from people and even ourselves. My years were no different in terms of how miserable I was, but I…
I never was a good student in high school. I joined the Navy, where I learned abundance of hands on skills with some academic knowledge. Once I was in college. My first couple of years were rough. I had terrible study habits and I had the attitude of "C" get degrees.…
High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…
As high school progressed, so did my GPA and the rigor of the courses I was taking. I set aside what I could not control and focused on what I could. With the help of some incredible teachers, my passion for science blossomed and my drive to get good grades, take challenging courses, and explore my passion for science grew. It was an honest passion interest and love for learning, not something forced upon me by my parents or my school. I think for many high school students their schedule and classes become something that will make their parents happy or look good on college transcripts, but it is something so much more for me.…
During my high school years my experiences have been positive and diverse. Freshman year I joined marching band. Sophomore year I began working and earning my own money. High school has taught me much about myself, others, and community. I have found that lifelong learning is key to personal growth and success.…
High school came along and switched everything around I would struggle in math mainly because I couldn't work with all the formulas and imaginary number, and my views for english class were changed when my literature teacher Mr.Casey, who helped me look at literature in a more life educating type of way. History was also changed to me by the way my world history teacher taught it. To this day I thrive in all kind of history, sciences, and literature classes. As I go to school I also have a part time job at Mcdonalds,it's a pretty simple and fun job, but sometimes it can also be stressful because of the customers. There are times when the customers get really upset because either their food is too cold or their food is taking too long to come out.…
During high school I had a mostly positive experience. Most of my teachers encouraged me to express my own thoughts, and pushed me to succeed as a learner. I agree with some of the points that Boomer makes, however the rest of them are extreme. Boomer (1988, p.179) ‘You may accordingly see codification of education as a lethal form of hardening of the categories; an attempt to establish the clinic in the classroom; a manifestation of 1984’ Comparing schooling to Orwell’s 1984, a dystopian novel that persecutes individualism and independent thinking as thoughtcrime. This idea is ridiculous, as many teachers that I have come across have been quite open to discussion and push active involvement in the classroom.…
It was back and forth for a while. My guidance counselor would call me down to his office to discuss the idea that my high school was going to cut the AP chemistry class for the following year and I had to pick a new science class for my junior year. When I asked why he told me that there were only eleven people signed up for the class and that they wanted fifteen to keep it open. To be fair it was understandable that most people would not want to sign up. Many found honors chemistry to be incredibly difficult and would be happy to be rid of it once they finished their final in June.…
One educational advantage that I have taken advantage of would be coming to a charter school to help my education grow. I had to a choice to g to a regular traditional school or to go to a public charter school, I chose the charter school. When I first entered the middle school charter, I knew it would be hard and I wanted to challenge my self. The first couple of weeks the teachers took it easy on us, but after that they started to teach. To surprise, it was not to hard.…
I believe that we live in a very competitive society today. High school students are put under a tremendous amount of stress to be the “best of the best”. Many of my peers feel if they do not take every AP class offered and graduate with perfect grades then they will never be able to succeed. Due to schedules overloaded with AP classes, students have little to no time outside of school and often forgo the importance of finding balance by participating in the liberal arts.…
Starting out my first semester in my undergraduate studies, I was so confident, believing that I would never become behind on assignments and will spend a tremendous amount of time studying. Unknowingly, I became behind on picking a preview date and was left with only a limited amount of open classes. While attending the preview, I was given a plan from DegreWorks that was filled with courses recommended for me my first semester. One of the courses apart of the plan was UNIV 150. After being unsure about the course, I did some further investigation on what I would be learning and then I asked myself, “Why do I need to take a course about college writing when I primarily took Pre-AP classes throughout high school? ”…
We all know High school is not that easy, there is too much work to be finished but in all this the teacher forgets that students need to have a social life as well as education. Students have six more classes and to do all the work together is not possible. A person does not gain the experience by reading textbooks, they learn by going out in the world and experiencing. All high school students are in their teenage years, that is the most crucial time of a person’s life, everyone is changing physically and biologically. According to a survey, the maximum no. of people getting anxiety, insomnia and going into depression are high school teenagers due to school work stress, personal relationships and bullying.…
My last year of high school was very difficult for me. During that year, I lost a lot of important people in my family and I fell into a slump. I had depression and had to miss many of my classes in order to help out my mother and father. I realized that I was very close to failing my classes and I realized I needed to get back on track.…
High school has taught me so many lessons not only about myself, but life in general. Thankfully, I have had friends and family who have stuck by my side through it all and encourage and tell me how great of a person I am today. Without my teachers I have had over the past years, I would not be the person I am today. They have changed me for the better because of the many lessons they have taught…
