Given that they come in knowing nothing, the learner must need knowledge and become a passive listener. Dewey expresses you may only learn in a discipline environment. However, the learner in the Critical Pedagogy is given the opportunity to co-investigate reality. They may question any part of reality and be an agent, that gives them the ability to struggle. With struggle comes question and the idea of inquiry. Inquiry is what separates humans from the animals, the ability to question anything as Pablo Freire mentions Liberal Progressive learners are different from both Classical Traditional/Conservative and Critical Pedagogy, the learners are individuals. Whereas they have their own ability to have prior knowledge from experience and of subject matters. Unlike the learners in Classical Traditional/Conservative that come in as a blank slate, these learners come in with some type of knowledge. Each philosophy has its own idea of how the teacher is seen. Classical Traditional/Conservative teachers are additionally the intellectual, the authority figure and the disciplinarian. The teacher is there to set the rules and provide all knowledge. They are the source of all knowledge; the teacher knows it all while the learner knows nothing. For example the parent may disagree with what the teacher says or teaches, they are disregarded because the teachers know it all. Classical Traditional/Conservative teachers are the ones who bestow knowledge. Pablo Freire describes the teachers as the depositor and narrators while the students are the depositories. Narrating their own information that seems knowledgeable while the learners memorize, receive and repeat. Being this and more, the teacher is the disciplinarian in Classical Traditional/Conservative, however Liberal Progressive sees the teacher as the facilitator of experience and projects. Opposite of Classical Traditional/Conservative, instead of punishment the teacher provides meaningful contexts. Giving the learners examples and motivation rather than humiliation. The teacher helps the learner build upon experience. Additionally, the teacher is the cultivator of individuality; they may sit back and observe the learners as they act on their own individuality.
