Veterinary Professional Practice PART A: Communication and Consultation Skills Consultations tended to be initiated with a friendly, semi- casual greeting. This allowed clients to feel at ease with the veterinarian, as it would come across as less intimidating for them than being addressed in an overly rigid, formal manner. It is a way to establish a rapport with the client early on, and indicates that the consultation has a more relationship focused nature as opposed to a slightly condescending paternalistic approach. This demonstrates to the clients from the beginning that they will be respected and their concerns heard (R. Shaw, 2006).…

The wrench is a useful tool used for a variety of different tasks, like tightening nuts and bolts. Without it, nuts and bolts everywhere would be falling out of place, and people everywhere would go “nuts” trying to reassemble desks and reattach the tires onto their cars. In Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, people do in fact “go nuts,” and wrenches are indeed used, but not in the exact same ways. Randle McMurphy, the main character of this novel, frequently causes mishap in the insane asylum he lives in, causing him to go “nuts”; he constantly messes with its orderly and mechanical schedule.…

During my second week of clinicals I followed the charge nurse before starting my shift in the Infusion center. The charge nurse begins her day by assigning the nursing staff, orientees, nursing students and assisted personnel (AP). She stated that she assigns the nurses and assisted personnel according to the patient’s needs. She proceeded by stating that she determines the patients’ needs, whether they are “C.N.A. busy or nurse busy”. This means that either, patients need help mainly with ADL’s or administering many medications (antibiotics, pain meds’ etc.) or other critical care.…

The idea of society causing a person’s own self destruction is contradictory, however it is a main theme in Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. In the novel, patients are admitted to a psychiatric ward when they stray away from following social norms, not because they are sick. The ward is run by Nurse Ratched, a controlling woman who is ironically all about manipulation instead of rehabilitation.…

Human social relationships all have one thing in common: the essential ability to form attachments. In order to form these attachments, the human body experiences seemingly miniscule yet significant changes on both a psychological level and a physical level. Two key factors that play into the biological level of close social attachment in humans, and in animals- specifically rats- is the role of the neuropeptides oxytocin (OXT) and arginine vasopressin (AVP). The close attachment one feels when entering a close social relationship is based on the biological neural and chemical components that trigger these feelings we have on a psychological level. Interestingly enough rats experience this phenomenon as well.…
