A Career In Marine Biology

A look beneath Marine biology has peaked my interest with its overwhelming amount of things to study. The ocean, along with other bodies of water, are a marine biologist’s playground. Not only do they study fish, but the quality of the water, the plants, the wavelength periods, acidity, and many more aspects. However, to become a marine biologist one must have a Bachelor of Science degree in marine biology, this includes classes such as biology I and II, general chemistry I and II, calculus, statistics, and even organic chemistry I and II. Having to achieve a 2.0 GPA or higher in each criteria can allow you to be eligible for this major. But before anyone can find a career, they need experience, with the labs they take in some of the classes, they can begin to understand the kind of environment they will be getting into. Being able to dive beneath the ocean, feeling the cold water around you, and the ability to swim by them makes this one of the most intriguing jobs I know of. Many marine biologists travel across the world, documenting and comparing works of aquatic life here and there. One day you’re in the Gulf of Mexico, the next you’re on your way to China to meet a professor of oceanography to help solve an issue. But seeing new species and habitats can really engage you in the game, exploring with submarines and supercomputers is a surefire way to experience the ocean first-hand. I admire the biodiversity of the ocean because there are so many different plants and animals that make it what it is today. Learning and discovering is what this job is really about, so there’s nothing to stress about. In this field of study, there are many great minds that you can meet as well, professional marine biologists or even ones that discovered a well know
