The graduate program in counseling or a counseling related field must have at least 48 graduate semester hours. However, the applicate graduate degree and graduate coursework must be less than ten years to fulfill to fulfill an application date. Therefore, an applicant can meet the requirement, if the applicant has held a license issued by another state or has been counseling in Texas in an exempt setting for at least five years prior to the application date. The applicant can have a degree in a counseling-related filed such as psychology, psychiatry, social work, marriage and family therapy, and guidance and counseling.
