On the history of the U.S. army

There’s a lot to say about the history of the army, and of the branches of military that came from it. I’ll start with the first war using American troops.
The American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) was the expeditionary force of the United States Army during World War I. It was established on July 5, 1917, in France under the command of General John J. Pershing. The AEF fought alongside the British, French, Canadian, and Australian Armies on the Western Front, against the German Empire. A small group of the AEF troops also fought alongside the Italian Army in that same year, against the Austro-Hungarian Army.
