He neighborhood streets wound around like a maze as my friend and I made turns left and right trying to find our way home. Time passed so slowly as we became even more exhausted with each step. It would have been easier to give up, but that was not who we were. We would find our way home, even if it took all night.
It was a little after four o’clock when we were sitting in the living room playing a game. At first the noise was distant but then it became clearer and clearer. The odor of flower- smelling perfume was strong enough to taste when we walked in the house. We followed her into the small kitchen with a plate of cookies fresh out of the oven. She pulled lemonade out of the refrigerator and poured us both a glass.
“What street do you live on?” She asked Sam “I can help you get home then.”
Sam started stuttering, “I have no idea.”
“Well what is your home phone number?” She asked handing Sam the phone.
He punched in his phone number and held his breath waiting for his mom to answer. I heard his mom crying over the phone asking where he was. He tried to calm his mom down and tell her that he and I were safe. He hung up and we went outside to find her. About 10 minutes later her car pulled up and she got out of the car and gave Sam a
