2. For each food sample, you will need to take two readings, one before adding the invertase and one after
3. Label 7 cups with the name of your drink you want to put in it (e.g. Coke)
4. Take 15 ml of each drink and put it in the right cup. (Make sure all the drinks are at room temperature)
5. Use a glucose urine test strip to measure the glucose concentration level in each of the 7 food sample before you add the invertase
6. To do this, dip a test strip into each of the sample cups, one at a time
7. Watch the test strip for 5 seconds before you take it out
8. Once you take it out wait for 30 seconds before recording the colour
9. Record your results based on the colour of the test

The objective of the lab was to find the calorie content of Cheetos and marshmallows. To do this we needed to use a calorimeter. The hypothesis was that Cheetos would have more calories because they have more fat in them. The Cheetos and marshmallows were lit and put in an oatmeal can calorimeter. The temputure change in the water leads to finding the calories in food.…

30 µl measurements of 0.4, 0.8, 1.2, 1.6 and 20 mg/ml were added into their own sample of the 3 ml Bradford Assay, 30 µl of water was added to a separate sample of Bradford Assay and 30 µl of the dilute liver homogenate was added to its own sample of Bradford Assay and left for 3 minutes. The absorbance of the standards and the diluted homogenate samples were recorded to create a standard curve. From this equation, the protein concentration of my sample was determined. Class averages were also obtained (Clendening).…

Plants photosynthesize in order to produce sugar and oxygen, which, in turn, gives the plant energy. Photosynthesis usually tends to occurs more when more chlorophyll are present in the leaves. When the leaves are exposed to light, the process of photosynthesis begins. The more light the plant is exposed to, the quicker the rate of photosynthesis will occur. Altering the amount of carbon dioxide given to the plant can also alter the rate at which photosynthesis occurs.…

Identification of Unknown Carbohydrates Using Various Biochemical Techniques Practical Assessment LO1 Introduction: The experiment conducted involved subjecting six samples of unknown carbohydrates to different methods of identification, this is involved several reagents including Benedict’s reagent, Barfoed’s reagent and iodine solution, these reagents provided the investigation with credible and accurate results as the reagents stated above give good indicative results to the types of carbohydrates present. Carbohydrates come in several different forms e.g. Starch is a polysaccharide and consists of thousands of monosaccharide sub-units which form a chain – polysaccharides (poly – many) are not readily soluble in water but react with iodine…

In this lab, we did four kind of different test, to mimic the chemistry of digestion. The first one was to test for sugar. We used a dropper and measured 2 ml of maltose and 2 ml of benedict’s solution in a pyrex test tube. After, using a test tube holder, we placed the test tube in a boiling water bath and heated for 5 min. After the 5 min, using a test tube holder we removed the test tube from the water bath.…

The temperature of the water bath will stay at its desired temperature for all 5 trials, a thermometer will be in the bath to ensure that the temperature remains constant. Type of sugar in solution Different sugars may increase or decrease the rate of reaction between it and the amylase Starch will be used. Time (minutes) If different trials last longer than others, or if the solutions are tested earlier or later than other trials, the experiment would not be a fair test. Each trial will last 3 minutes after the starch solution is poured into the amylase solution, using a pipette the solution will be taken every 30 seconds to be tested with the iodine Size of test tubes The size or volume of test tubes may affect the reaction between the solutions All test tubes in this experiment will have the same length, diameter and size to maintain a constant…

Martha Garcia November 10, 2017 Chemical Weathering Background Chemical Weathering is caused by rain water reacting with the mineral grains in rocks to form new minerals (clays) and soluble salts. It occurs in almost all types of rocks, smaller rocks are susceptible, because they have greater surface area, more common where water is, because water is important to many of the chemical reactions, when water is slightly acidic, which is called ocean acidification. Ocean acidification is excess carbon dioxide causing water to become more acidic, which is essential for chemical weathering. It often occurs more particularly in warmer temperature and close to water, this is essential for reaction to occur easier. An example would…

Introduction: Bacteria and Fungi are important contributors of the living life. They however differ in their colony/ color/ size/shape/appearance. Bacteria are generally small in size but large in colonial structure, they are usually in the form of coccus, bacillus and spirillum, many times bacteria are of vivid colors because they have chlorophyll which also absorbs the light of different wavelengths which create natural colors of brown, pink, blue, orange and purple. Fungi on the other hand do not have chlorophyll, they are bigger in size, and they can be found usually in the form of yeast, mold and mushrooms. Which have most of the colors.…

ABSTARCT In this experiment I have compared three different methods of determining the amount (percentage) of ethanol present in an aqueous sample. I tested three different samples containing different percentage amounts of ethanol in them; Listerine, Terra Fresca Wine and the last is a mixture of ethanol and water that was made by me. The three different methods compared are the redox titration method which involves the oxidation of ethanol to ethanoic acid and then titrating the residue with sodium thiosulfate, which would then be used to calculate the number of moles of ethanol present in the original sample. The method of distillation involves heating the samples to the boiling point of ethanol causing it to evaporate from the liquid and then measuring the volume of ethanol evolved and comparing it with the original volume.…

Introduction: Corrosion, otherwise called rusting is defined as a natural process that changes over a refined metal to a more chemically stable shape, for example, its oxide, hydroxide, or sulfide. It is the slow destruction of materials (generally metals) by a chemical reaction caused by the environment. Corrosion is basic to ponder in two perspectives. Right off the bat, financial, which including the lessening of material misfortunes coming about because of the squandering ceaselessly or sudden disappointment of funnelling, tanks, metal segments of machines, ships, frames, marines, structures, and so on. :.…
