As we went north, we came to a place that was very magnificent so I called it Arcadia. I took an 8-year-old boy from there and was fascinated by the people there. We stayed there for three days. As we left Arcadia, we went past places that were green and had forests but no harbors. On April 17, 1524, we landed on a bay, encountered another group of native people, and found a large lake. This land I shall call “Angouleme” because the king is the count of Angouleme and the bay “Santa Margarita” because the king’s sister is named Maruerite. The people were similar to the others we had seen before. They wore bird feathers of many colors, went towards us joyfully, and treated us so graciously. They even showed us the safest place to land the boat. We went up the river which formed a great lake that had many boats already on it. All of a sudden, a forceful wind blew from the sea and we had to go back to the ship and leave this pleasant
