Analyzing Colin Kaepernick's Actions

As we were growing up, we were always taught to stand up for ourselves and for what we believe in. But, sometimes can it get taken to far? Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, refused to stand up for “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the football game on Friday night. Did Colin Kaepernick’s actions came off as American or un American? To begin with, I support that Colin Kaepernick’s actions came off as un American. I agree with Kaepernick about how he was trying to stand up for his beliefs, and trying to help solve a problem that is going on throughout our country, but I think the way he came off as is disrespectful to our country. Next, I think that Kaepernick’s actions also proved to be un American because he is disrespecting the United States. He lives in the United States and because of the United States and our freedom, he is allowed to play football. For instance, football is his career, and without football he wouldn’t be as successful as he is today. By refusing to stand up for the National Anthem, he his not paying his respects to the country he lives in. There are plenty of other countries he can move to if he’s not going to respect the United States. Lastly, the National Anthem is a tradition. We have been taught ever since we were a little kid to stand up and say the National Anthem or Pledge of Allegiance before school or any sporting event. Sports are a big part our culture. For example, the Super Bowl is one of the most watched events on tv every year. It is a tradition to sing the National Anthem before every sporting game, and some teams also include the flyover with the jets and flag to help symbolize out
