Proud Mary Proud Mary was by far one of the best movies that I have seen this year. The movie is an action packed, kick-butt film in which Taraji P Henson plays the lead character, Mary. NY Times described Taraji as a, “hit woman with a soft spot” and Variety describes her as a, “Haunted assassin who bonds with a kid.” I, however, describe Taraji’s character Mary as simply a resilient and audacious hero. In Proud Mary, Mary was a part of a mafia that she had been affiliated with all her…

Mary is represented as icons, drawings, paintings, and apparitions, such as La Santa Muerte, La Negrita, Our Lady of the Rock, Madonna, The Virgin of Guadalupe, and Our Lady of the Wall. With there still being many more, all of this just undoubtedly proves how incredibly substantial her influence is. It is completely reasonable to believe in Mary’s influence because “to look at [her]…is to look at God’s original plan for humanity” (Nouwen, 1989), as mentioned in class: she is the ultimate…

Sagrada Familia,” or the Sacred Family. La Sagrada Familia is, therefore, an expiatory temple, which is a type of temple dedicated to a deity to show devotion, which is a reason as to why the work’s scale is so immense, and why Gaudi paid so much attention to small details. Gaudi’s decision to work at such a large scale is also because he wanted the church to be seen from anywhere in the city of Barcelona, inviting those who need salvation to come and be saved. Gaudi’s plan was limited however,…

people did not believe in the power of women to rule especially religious authorities. John Knox, believed “To promote a woman to bear rule, superiority, dominion or empire… is against all nature” (Doc 1). Despite this common belief Elizabeth’s rule was given to her because of her religious values which may be one of the reasons she felt a need to stick so closely to it as when she entered the Spanish Armada she said “ to live or die amongst you all: to lay down for my God” (Doc 7).
